ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
William Jenken
William Jenken joined the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra as second
clarinetist in January of 1998. He is originally from northern Alberta,
Canada and has been a member of several orchestras in that country over
the years. Most recently, he spent eight and a half years (1989-1998)
as Assistant Principal Clarinetist and Bass Clarinetist with the
Vancouver Symphony Orchestra under Music Director Sergiu Commissiona in
British Columbia where he was also an active teacher and chamber
musician. He has performed as soloist with several orchestras including
the Copland Clarinet Concerto with Baltimore Chamber Orchestra as well
as performing with Peter Minkler a movement of the Bruch Double Concerto
for Clarinet and Viola with the Baltimore Symphony. While in Vancouver,
he was a member of the Curio Chamber Ensemble, performances of which
were broadcast nationally on the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting
Corporation). In Maryland, he has been an active Chamber Musician,
performing often with other musicians in many different series including
Columbias Sundays at Three, An Die Musik, The Chalice Series, and he
has been a frequent performer in the BSOs Music by Candlelight series
at the Second Presbyterian Church in Baltimore. He has also performed
in several BSO Chamber Concerts including Schuberts Shepherd on the
Rock with soprano Janice Chandler-Eteme and pianist Eric Conway.
Sylvie Beaudoin
Pianist Sylvie Beaudoin has been performing as a recitalist, guest
soloist of orchestras, chamber musician and accompanist across Canada,
in Spain, Japan, France and the United-States since 1975. This includes
appearances on television and radio stations, as well as concerts with
internationally acclaimed musicians. She gradually came to specialize in
chamber music in the 1990s. Originally from Canada, Ms. Beaudoin
established herself in Maryland in 1999 and has been performing with
numerous members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra for several chamber
music series in Maryland and D.C.. Ms. Beaudoin is the recipient of many
awards, prizes and scholarships in Canada and the U.S.. She studied with
Jane A. Coop at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver to
complete her Bachelor and Master degrees in piano in 1993, and studied
with other distinguished artists in North America and abroad, in private
lessons or in masterclasses. Among them are pianists Cecile Ousset,
Seymour Lipkin, Marian Hahn, Anton Kuerti, Richard Goode, John Perry,
Irma Vallecillo, Martin Isepp and Marc Durand. In the 1990's she did
chamber music residencies at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada and
at the Pacific Music Festival of Sapporo in Japan, and furthered her
chamber music studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in
California and at the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival in Maine. Ms.
Beaudoin started teaching in 1982 and has been teaching at her private
Studio located in Howard County since 2002.
Peter Minkler
Praised by the Baltimore Sun for producing "a darkly beautiful sound as he limned the score with clarity and communicative warmth", Peter Minkler is currently Acting Assistant Principal Viola of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. He also serves as Principal Viola of the Baltimore Choral Arts Society Orchestra, a position he has held since 1998. Prior to his arrival in Baltimore, he was Associate Principal with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mr. Minkler began his undergraduate instruction with Robert Vernon at the Cleveland Institute of Music and earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with Francis Tursi. He also participated in master classes at the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada with Lillian Fuchs, Donald McInnes and William Primrose.
He has appeared as soloist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Columbia (MD) Orchestra, the Baltimore Choral Arts Society and the Buffalo Philharmonic. An avid chamber musician, Mr. Minkler regularly performs in recital and is co-founder of the Chamber Music by Candlelight series at the Second Presbyterian Church of Baltimore. Additionally, he coordinates the Chamber Music UB: The BSO Musicians Series, recently developed in conjunction with the University of Baltimore and now in its second season.
Viola Seul, his first solo CD, is a unique collection of seven works for unaccompanied viola and includes a world premiere recording. Centaur Records has announced a release date of October 2007.
