An exhibit of color film photographs
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mónica López-González is presently a Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) student in the Continuing Studies division and is completing the Certificate of Art in Photography. Her work has been exhibited in the Continuing Studies Student Exhibit Fall 2007 and Fall 2008 at MICA as well as at Mills Pond House Gallery's The Art of Music Exhibition in Saint James, New York. Mónica had her first invited solo show, Irresistible Solitude, of black and white film photographs here at An die Musik in January 2008 . This current exhibit marks Mónica's second solo exhibit at An die Musik. She is currently a contributor to the online Baltimore magazine Radar Redux.
Mónica is currently also a fourth year doctoral graduate student in the Department of Cognitive Science at the Johns Hopkins University. She actively does theoretical work in linguistics as well as experimental work in first language acquisition.
Mónica holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Bachelor of Arts in French Language and Literature, and a Master of Arts in Cognitive Science, all from Johns Hopkins University. Aside from being a photographer and cognitive scientist, Mónika is an accomplished pianist, having studied at the Peabody both in the Preparatory as a child and in the Conservatory as a Hopkins undergraduate under the tutelage of Elizabeth Stephenson and Corey McVicar, respectively. Upon graduating in 2005, she was awarded by unanimous vote the competitive Louis Sudler Prize in the Arts for her piano performance in her CD recording of Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona's Suite Espagnole and Spanish composer Isaac Albéniz's El Albaicín from Suite Iberia. As noted in the award, her performance "won the highest accolades of the committee members, who found [her] execution not only technically proficient but also colorful, lively, passionate, and moving."
