Evolution Contemporary Music Series
Season 5: A Sense of Place -- real and abstract musical communities
Each of this season's programs focuses on dynamic, engaging new music from a particular geographical region or broadly defined "scene." From Finnish and English composers to Americans at home and abroad, a question persists: in an increasingly global and virtual culture, does the national or cultural origin of music -- a sense of place -- still matter?
ACROSS THE POND
the Evolution Contemporary Music Series will present "Across the Pond," an evening of music by English composers: Thomas Ades, Harrison Birtwistle, Anna Clyne, Oliver Knussen, Jonathan Harvey, Tarik O'Regan, and new Peabody Institute faculty member Oscar Bettison. Violinist Courtney Orlando will give the world premiere of Bettison's "Neolithic Airs" (2008). Other featured performers include pianists Timothy Hoft and Stefan Petrov, tenor Devin Mercer, countertenor Curtis Adamson, cellist Rachel Hsieh and harpist Jacqueline Pollauf.
Join us at 7:00pm for a pre-concert conversation with Bettison and Peabody musicologist Richard Giarusso.
