ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Taiwanese pianist Frederic Mong-Huei Chen has performed internationally
in Belgium, Canada, France, Italy, Poland, Taiwan and the United States.
Mr. Chen's numerous competition awards have brought him national and
international attention. At the age of 17, he won the first prize at the
Taiwan National Music Competition, and he was the laureate in the 5th
and 10th Taipei International Chopin Piano Competition. In USA, he was
awarded the silver and bronze medal at the Young Artist Piano
Competition held by the Connecticut State Music Teachers Association. He
was also the winner of the Connecticut MTNA Young Artist Piano
Competition. Most recently, he was a
laureate in the Mannes International Keyboard Institute & Festival's
Dorothy MacKenzie Artist Recognition Scholarship Awards competition.
After receiving her Bachelor of Music degree from Oberlin Conservatory,
he got his Master of Music at the Yale School of Music. Most recently,
Chen performed Chopin's First Piano Concerto with the National Taiwan
Normal University Orchestra under the baton of Apo Hsu at Taipei's Novel
Hall for Performing Arts. His piano teachers include Peter Frankl, Ann
Schein, Susan Starr, Monique Duphil and Ruth Slenczynska. In addition,
he has worked in master classes with Akiko Ebi, Fabio Bidini, Jacques
Rouvier, John Perry, John O'Conor, Claude Frank, Lazar Berman, and
Cyprien Katsaris.
