The John Hicks Legacy Band is honoring John Hicks in birthday tributes led by Elise Wood Hicks (alto flute, flute) long time band-member, collaborator and widow of the late John Hicks - a piano legend.
Elise Wood has stepped forward in the quest to keep the Hicks music alive drawing upon the repertoire of Hicks for the upcoming performances. She is roadworthy from 2 decades of work with the Jazz Professor-John Hicks that has included many international tours of Asia, Europe, and the United States.
The most recent sextet recording from the Hicks discography is called Sweet Love of Mine HCD7142 on the Highnote label (with Elise Wood, Javon Jackson, Curtis Lundy and Victor Jones, Ray Mantilla) has been widely played and favorably reviewed. Wood can also be found on 9 other cds with Mr. Hicks and is a co-leader on 4 of them (Luminous, Single Petal of a Rose, Trio and Strings and Beautiful Friendship and Live in Paris).
