ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Sandra Ferrandez, soprano
After finishing her singing studies at the High
Conservatoire of Music of Valencia (Spain) under
Ana Luisa Chova, she attends master classes by
Victoria de los Angeles, Magda Olivero, Renata
Scotto (opera), J. Philip Schulze, Donald Sultzen
and Wolfram Rieger (lied), Alejandro Zabala
and Miguel Zanetti and orchestra conductors
such as Kamal Khan and José Collado.
As a recitalist, she has sung concerts all over Spain:
Valencia (Palau de les arts), Sevilla, Madrid, Barce-
lona, Burgos, Alicante, A Coruña... and has been
invited to sing in Albany and France.
She sung in many operas: Les Contes d'Hoffman by
Offenbach, Gianni Schicchi and La Rondine by
Puccini, Die Zauberflöte and Cosi Fan Tutte by
Mozart, Das Rheingold by Wagner, L'enfant et les
Sortilèges by Ravel... being conducted by great mu-
sicians such as Lorin Maazel. She also performed
several roles of Zarzuela in Madrid (Teatro Real),
Sevilla and Bilbao. She also sung with the Radio and
Television Orchestra of Spain.
She is awarded in the National Singing Competition
of Abaran, International Singing Competition City
of Logroño, Singing Competition City of Alcoy, and
First Prize in the Spanish Young Musicians Compe-
tition.
The magazine Opera Actual has given its annual
award to her as one of the outsanding singers of
her generation. Montserrat Caballé and
Placido Domingo had also been given this award.
Laïla Barnat, piano
Laïla Barnat studied violin, piano, as well as cho-
ral singing at the Conservatoire of Pau in France,
where she was awarded unanimously first
prize of chamber music. Having earned her degree from the Conservatory
of Bayonne, where she studied under the direction
of Marina Pakowsky, Laïla holds degrees in accom-
paniment and singer coaching. She also holds a degree in art history from the University of Pau.
In 2003 she began taking clases with Ricardo
Requejo at the Higher Conservatory of Music,
« Musikene » of San Sebastian, Spain. There she did
advanced coursework in accompaniment and musical classes: sight-reading with Sylvaine Billier,
transposition of musical pieces and short scores
with Susana Zabaco, vocal accompaniment with
Alejandro Zabala, opera repertoire with Maciej
Pikulski, and orchestra repertoire with Sophia
Unsworth. In 2007, she was the first pianist to hold
the degree with the speciality of vocal accompaniment in "Musikene".
She has taken several advanced classes: piano with
Eldar Nebolsin, accompaniment with Christine
Marchais, chamber music with Valérie Aymard,
contemporary music with Eric Tanguy, and singing
with Michel Piquemal.
In spite of her youth, Laïla Barnat has been
performing as a soloist and accompanist in
France, Spain, Denmark, Rusia and the USA.
