CD Release Concert for Odd Couple

In December, 2008 one of the most important figures in music, composer Elliot Carter, will celebrate his 100th birthday. Haimovitz honors this milestone with a performance of Carter's 1948 Sonata for Cello and Piano, one of the greatest 20th century works in the sonata genre. This will be paired with Samuel Barber's romantic Sonata from 1932. The recording of these works, to be released in fall 2008, will include two works for cello and piano by the next generation of composers: David Sanford's 22 Part I and a new work Cantos for Slava (Mstislav Rostropovich) by Augusta Read Thomas commissioned especially for the project, and as part of the ASCAP Concert Music Award given to Haimovitz in 2006.
