ABOUT THE MUSICIANS:

Yann Dubost was born in Lyon (France) in 1983. His talent and his originality established him as one of the most promising double bass player of the young generation. He was award winner of the Cziffra Foundation for 2007 and has been chosen to be part of the CulturesFrance's “Déclic” scheme 2008, sponsored by Radio FranceSociété Générale, which supports the most outstanding young French classical musicians. Among his many awards are: 1st prize at the 8th International Competition of Wattrelos (France) in 1999, 1st prize of the Haverhill Soloist Competition (England) in 2004 and 1st prize of the International Society of Bassists Solo Competition (USA) in 2005.

He regularly takes part in several festivals such as Deauville, Les Arcs, Les Musiques in Marseille, La Folle Journée in Nantes, Les Rencontres Musicales d'Enghien (Belgium). his chamber music partners include Bertrand Chamayou, Antoine Tamestit, Roland Pidoux, Régis Pasquier, Svetlin Roussev, Romain Guyot, Augustin Dumay.

Fond of contemporary music, he premiered and recorded several pieces for solo bass and has been member of the Ensemble Itinéraire since 2002. Yann has met and worked with composers such as Henri Dutilleux, György Kurtag, Michaël Levinas, Betsy Jolas, MarcAndré Dalbavie.

Seiji Ozawa selected him twice (in 2006 and 2008) to take part in his International Music Academy – Switzerland, where Yann worked with Maestro Ozawa, Robert Mann, Pamela Frank, Nobuko Imai and Sadao Harada. During 2006, he has also been Principal Double bass in the London Symphony Orchestra.

Yann Dubost studied with Philippe Guingouain and Bernard Cazauran, graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon, and joined in 2002 the Orchestre de Paris, at the age of 19. Peteris Vasks, Bass Trip

Winner of the International Piano Competition of Paris (1994) and Arcachon (1999), Vincent Sangare Balse has been performing since he was 8 years old and he is now rapidly becoming a very soughtafter pianist. In the United States, he has been heard in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix and Santa Barbara and in 2001, Vincent Sangare Balse distinguished himself by receiving the New Orleans City Mayor’s Honours for his solo performance with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra at the Orpheum Theater. His performances were featured in many of the great halls of his native country of France such as at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Salle Pleyel and Salle Cortot in Paris but also in the rest of the country: GrandThéâtre de Bordeaux and Lyon’s Opera House among others. In the rest of Europe, his performances were featured in San Sebastien, Malaga, Barcelona (Spain), in Brescia, Sienna (Italy), in London (UK), and in Dinant (Belgium). Recently, he made his debut in Asia with performances in Japan at the Tiarakoto Hall in Tokyo, and at the Culport hall in Kochi. Others recent performances include concerts with violinist Maxim Vengerov, Fine Arts Quartet, trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and performances for Maestro Rostropovitch.

Vincent Sangaré Balse can be found on several recordings. He made his first solo album ‘Spring Forth’ in the United States and a compact disc with the saxophonist Julien Petit was released under the french label Lyrinx in 2005. A versatile musician, he is part of the group “Language Tango”, whose second album “La Ventana” was released last year. In addition to his performing career, Vincent Sangaré Balse dedicates his time to teaching. He has been on the piano faculty of the Léognan School of Music in France and at the Brinson International Music Academy. He is currently on the teaching faculty at the Rencontres Musicales Internationales des Graves (France).

Vincent Sangaré Balse began playing the piano at the age of six under the tutelage of Zoya Zorin. He is a graduate of the Sienna Academy (Italy) and of Bordeaux conservatory where he obtained a gold medal with honors and a first prize in chamber music. In 2002, he graduated with another first prize in piano and chamber music from the Conservatoire National Superieur de Paris where he studied with Nicholas Angelich, Christian Ivaldi and Alain Meunier. In addition to piano, Vincent Sangaré Balse studied harmony, counterpoint and composition.

Currently, Vincent Sangare Balse lives between Paris and New York where he graduated with a Master degree from the Juilliard School in Jerome Lowentahl’s studio. He studied conducting both at the Paris Conservatory and the Juilliard School and is now the principle conductor of the Orchestre des Graves in France.
