PROGRAM:
Bach to Vivaldi
“something borrowed sounds like new”
Keyboard Concertos after Vivaldi by JS Bach for violin, fortepiano and
harpsichord
With soloists:
Andrew Willis – fortepiano
Joseph Gascho – harpsichord
Elizabeth Field -- violin
Bach found great inspiration from Vivaldi, virtually copying a number of his concertos, and arranging others for keyboard and diverse instruments. Similarly Bach's own well-known violin concerti, BWV 1041 (violin concerto in A minor) and BWV 1043 (violin concerto in E Major), are the "twins" of the harpsichord concerti, BWV 1058 and 1054. Keyboard concertos that appear without a “twin” have been arranged for other instruments. In this concert you will hear the famous violin concertos performed in their keyboard versions by fortepianist Andrew Willis and Joseph Gascho on the harpsichord. Field will play the famous harpsichord concerto, BWV 1056 typically heard in f minor, arranged for violin in g minor. To compliment these concertos, The Vivaldi Project will perform three of Vivaldi's little known but delightful String Concertos.
