Odell returns to An die Musik Live to perform the monumental work, Vingt Regards Sur L'Enfant Jesus
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
The New Hampshire-born pianist Matthew Odell began hisstudies at the age of 10 and has since distinguished himself as both a solo andcollaborative pianist. A strong advocateof the music of our time, he has performed contemporary repertoire with the NewJuilliard Ensemble and with the American Art Song Festival, an organization hefounded in 2004. Mr. Odells affinityfor the music of Olivier Messiaen has been evidenced by performances of his Couleurs de la cité céleste with the Peabody Camerata, the Quartet for the End ofTime in Alice Tully Hall, and numerous song cycles and solo piano works. Mr. Odell is a founding member of the HamptonPiano Trio, a group actively involved in presenting outstanding works from theestablished repertoire alongside newly-commissioned works. In addition to performances at the Kennedy Centerin Washington, D.C.,Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and the 92nd StreetY in New York, Mr. Odell has appeared at theAspen Music Festival, New YorksFocus! Festival, the La Gesse Festival in Toulouse, France, in Moscow and St.Petersburg, Russia, and at the International Music Academy in Nice, France,where he was on the faculty. Recentperformances have taken him to New York, Chicago, Washington,D.C., Helsinki, Finland,and Kyoto, Japan, where he performed in theRohm International Music Festival. Upcoming performances include numerous solorecitals, a tribute to Elliot Carter at the Focus! Festival, and a performanceof Messiaens Des canyons aux étoiles with the Axiom Ensemble at Lincoln Center.
Mr. Odell is currently a C.V. Starr Doctoral Fellow at the Juilliard School, where he studies with MargoGarrett, Jonathan Feldman, and Brian Zeger. He completed his studies withMarian Hahn at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, graduating Pi Kappa Lambdawith both a master of music degree and a graduate performance diploma in pianoperformance. He has also studied with Karl-HeinzKämmerling at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria and with Ann Schein at the Aspen Music School. He has performed in masterclasses of LeonFleisher, Richard Goode, Ian Hobson, Martin Isepp, and the Tokyo StringQuartet.
Mr. Odell has won many awards, including the Sarah StuhlmanZierler Award, two Peabody Career Development Grants, the Lucrezia Bori Grant,the Virginia Allison Accompanying Award, and the La Gesse Foundation Competition.
