ABOUT THE ARTIST:
“Provocative, lustrous and rich with emotional contrasts” as reviewed by The Washington Post, Grace Eun Hae Kim has performed extensively as a recitalist and chamber musician in numerous halls including the Alice Tully Hall, Juilliard Theater, Kennedy Center, and Steinway Hall. Her performance of the Brahms C minor piano trio has been broadcast on PBS. Solo appearances with orchestras include the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra, Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, Cherokee Symphony Orchestra, and Siouxland Youth Symphony. Chamber orchestral appearances include the New Millennium Festival Orchestra in Gijón, Spain.
Ms. Kim started piano studies with her mother at the age of four and gave her first recital at the age of nine. Upon moving to the United States, she continued her studies with James March and was awarded first prizes from the Marcia Lehmberg Concerto Competition, Russell C. Wonderlic Piano Competition, State MTNA-Baldwin Competition, and the Juilliard Preparatory Gina Bachauer Competition.
A recipient of the Korean-American Scholarship Foundation, other accolades include prizes in the prestigious William Kapell International Piano Competition, Washington International Competition, Iowa International Piano Competition, New Jersey Young Artists Competition and the Corpus Christi International Piano Competition.
An advocate of new music, Ms. Kim has collaborated with the New Juilliard Ensemble in giving U.S premieres. She has performed in master classes given by Leon Fleisher, Nelita True, and Rita Sloan and has on occasion worked with Marc Durand, Veda Kaplinksy, Emanuel Krasovsky, Robert McDonald, Yong Hi Moon, Benjamin Pasternack, Paul Schenly, Arie Vardi, and Dominique Weber. Chamber coachings have led her to work with Martin Canin, Jonathan Feldman, Margo Garrett, Herbert Greenberg, Ellen Mack, and Emma Tahmizian.
Ms. Kim has attended the Banff Center for the Arts, Pianofest, Bowdoin International Music Festival, New Millennium Piano Festival, Interlochen Summer Arts Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival on full scholarship. She received a Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Juilliard School, where she was also the recipient of the prestigious Van Cliburn Scholarship, under the tutelage of Herbert Stessin and Julian Martin. Ms. Kim currently studies with Boris Slutsky in the Doctor of Musical Arts program at the Peabody Institute.
