ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Pianist, Akane Kubota, a native of Tokyo, Japan, began her piano studies at age six. She entered Toho Junior High School of the Toho College of Music and continued her studies at the Tokyo Metropolitan High School of Music and Fine Arts, where she worked with Etsuko Terada. In 2003, she moved to the United States to attend the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, as a student of Yong Hi Moon. In 2009, she has finished pursuing a M.M. degree on scholarship at New York University, where she served as an adjunct piano faculty teaching both private and group lessons since 2007.

Akane Kubota has performed extensively in her native country and at venues around the world. She has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician at the Burgos International Music Festival (Spain). In 2006, she was featured at the Bowdoin International Music Festival as a scholarship student; the same year, she was selected as a semi-finalist in the 6th Sakai International Piano Competition (Osaka, Japan). She has also been involved as a pianist in theatrical productions, under the auspices of New York's Symphony Space (in the opera "Jefferson and Poe") and the Baltimore Theatre Project.

She has performed in master classes of pianists such as Malcolm Bilson, Eteri Andjaparidze, Marilyn Nonken and coached by Leon Fleisher, Ellen Mack, Amit Peled, Alexander Shtarkman, Jose Ramon Mendez, Marion Feldman, and Jonathan Feldman from the Juilliard School. Recently, she performed at Suntory hall in Tokyo, Japan, and received an award presented by Tokyo International Associations of Artists. Ms.Kubota will make her debut recital at the Carnegie Weill Recital Hall on June 14, Sunday, 2009 as a recent prize winner of the Artists International Competition 2007.

Currently, she studies with world renowned artist and teacher Miyoko Lotto in New York City.
