The Misto di Voci Ensemble
The Misto di Voci Ensemble comprised of violin, clarinet and piano, has been thrilling audiences in the Mid Atlantic region with their exciting performances. Translated as “mixed voices” from Italian, Misto di Voci describes the complimentary timbres of the ensemble. The group was formed by three seasoned musicians, all graduates of the Peabody Conservatory of Music who share the goal of presenting this rich genre of music. Part of their mission is to perform for musically underserved communities and educational institutions. The Misto di Voci Ensemble enjoys interacting with audiences by discussing the music performed.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Paula Hickey graduated from the Peabody Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Clarinet Performance and Recording Arts. She also received Bachelor of Music degrees from Kent State University in Clarinet Performance and Music Theory, and studied at The Banff Centre for the Arts in Alberta Canada.
Paula is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda. As a recording engineer she has worked with the late John Eargle and at National Public Radio. Paula has recorded the Houston Symphony and the Houston Grand Opera and currently works for the Voice of America in Washington DC.
She has extensive performance experience as a recitalist and has performed with many varied music ensembles. Her teachers include Loren Kitt, Steve Barta, Wesley Foster, Ted Johnson, J. David Harris, and Dennis Nygren. She has participated in master classes with Larry Combs.

Violinist David Yarbrough graduated from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University with a Doctor of Musical Arts. He also attended SUNY/Stonybrook, and the New School of Music. David has studied music extensively attending the Blossom Music Festival, Spoleto Festival, and the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. He has studied with Herbert Greenberg , Jascha Brodsky, and Linda Shannon Cerone.
Dr. Yarbrough has been a faculty member of the Eastern Music Festival since 1991 and has performed as a member of the Atlanta and Baltimore symphonies. He has done extensive research and recitals promoting the violin sonata (1927) of William Levi Dawson for which he created a critical edition.
Dr. Yarbrough is currently the Orchestra Director of Eleanor Roosevelt High School, which has the largest string program in the state of Maryland.

Pianist Daniel Lau has received enthusiastic press notices for both his solo and chamber performances. The Washington Post praised his "exemplary artistry;" the Baltimore Sun noted "Lau's beautifully shaded playing;" the Intelligencer Journal (Lancaster, PA) lauded his "flair, great technical proficiency and expressiveness;" and La Liberté (Fribourg, Switzerland) cited "playful nuances, translucent phrasing, and miraculous sonorities." He tours nationally with soprano Sabrina Coleman Clark and is a member of the Ravel Trio praised recently by the Swiss Journal du Jura, "Splendid interpretation, vigorous and nuanced playing."
Since 2006, he has released half a dozen recordings with a variety of artists, including a CD with award winning engineer Marc Arbort and a self-produced solo CD "Transcendent Colors." Dr. Lau serves as Chair of the Maryland State Music Teachers Association Chamber Music Festival and Competition Coordinator for the American Liszt Society Liszt-Garrison Piano Festival and Competition. With a special interest in Asian American and African American composers, Dr. Lau is committed to the performance of living composers. Dr. Lau attended Loma Linda University and the Peabody Conservatory and is a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda honorary society. He is an Assistant Professor of Music at Washington Adventist University.
