Globe Trotting Singer-Songwriter and Guitarist Peter Maybarduk Debuts in Baltimore

Eloquent singer-songwriter and guitarist Peter Maybarduk has circled the globe many times in his work as a human rights attorney. In each locale, he breathes in rich experiences, listening deeply to the music played and stories told. He is a rare pop lyricist, writing about complex situations and challenges from first hand experience. His lyrics convey the eye of an artist, the soul of a peacekeeper and the questioning nature of a keen intellect. A storyteller akin to Alejandro Escovedo, his words carry the honesty and power reminiscent of Eddie Vedder - and one imagines his star steadily rising.

Tickets: $15/$10 students

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Based in Washington, D.C., Maybarduk has performed his music as a solo singer/songwriter and with small bands and larger ensembles in Colombia and Nicaragua and in half a dozen states in this country. He played numerous venues while attending William and Mary in Virginia and even more in Northern California while at University of California, Berkeley. Moving to the nation’s capital, he became deeply immersed in the Indie Rock scene while working a day job at Public Citizen. On June 30 at An die Musik Live, Baltimore music fans can hear the same melodies and compelling rhythm that have left audiences in other cities spellbound.

Maybarduk recently announced the digital release of his third album, Ring Around the Atlantic. Metro Music Scene calls Maybarduk's compositions "thought-provoking." DC Rock Live calls the music "complex and interesting." Atlantic is richly arranged alt-pop with moments of post-rock and classical influence. The CD was produced by Baltimore’s own J. Robbins (Office of Future Plans; Jawbox). Robbins also produced Maybarduk’s second album, No Hay Pueblo Vencido (No Defeated People).

For his Baltimore debut at An die Musik, Maybarduk will perform tunes from all three discs, with help from a talented cadre of friends including some members of the Greater Waverly Liberal Humanist Choir. Their sound is melodic, rhythmic and introspective but rocks out when the time is right. Sample and download tunes from A Ring Around the Atlantic from Bandcamp, iTunes and other digital stores.
